Inhalable Caffeine New to the Market

Is our country addicted to caffeine? Many people are wondering about that question as more and more products aimed at providing a quick caffeine high are making their way onto the market.

Aeroshot

The newest product is Aeroshot, an inhalable form of caffeine that gives users an instant shot of energy. The canister contains 100 mg of caffeine powder and B-vitamins, and it contains no calories. At just $2.99 per canister, which contains 6 doses, experts are sure the product will be a hit among Americans in no time.

Creators Say It is Safe

Aeroshot is manufactured in France, in connection with Breathable Foods, Inc., which is based in Massachusetts. Creators of the product insist it is a safe alternative to drinking coffee and that there should be no cause for concern. “It is a safe product that delivers caffeine and a mix of B vitamins to the mouth, and it does not contain the mystery chemicals found in other energy products like taurine or glucuronic acid,” said Tom Hadfield, chief executive officer of Breathable Foods. Health Concerns

Some people are concerned that the caffeine boost will be abused, particularly by young people who want to stay awake to party. “The product is nothing more than a club drug designed to give users the ability to drink until they drop,” New York senator Charles Schumer said. Caffeine has its drawbacks, especially when consumed in large quantities. Heart palpitations, nausea, diarrhea, anxiety, and insomnia are the most common side effects. A fast acting high dose of caffeine could be even more dangerous. “You want those 10 cups of coffee, it will probably take you a couple hours to get through all that coffee with all that volume that you are drinking,” Dr. Lisa Ganjhu, a gastroenterologist and internal medicine doctor at New York-based St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital, said. “With these inhale caffeine canisters you can get that in 10 of those little canisters – so you just puff away and you could be getting all of that within the hour.” (2)

Caffeine Addiction

The product emphasizes an even broader problem for our country – our addiction to caffeine. Anytime we rely on a substance to get us through the day we are in danger of addiction, whether it is dangerous or not. We’ve become so accustomed to our morning coffee to jump start our day, we are like a drug addict who needs their daily dose of their drug. Caffeine is the accepted drug of our country, and even though people are dependent on it and suffer withdrawal symptoms if they go without it, we continue to come up with more and more ways to get it into our bodies in the easiest way.
