This presentation will explore the use of alternative pathways to healing in recovery. By looking at the four universal addictions the participation will have a broader scope of knowledge and useful tools in helping overcome barriers in all areas of life. Universally, the addiction to Intensity, the Addiction to Perfection, the Addiction of the Need to Know and the Addiction to being fixated on what is Not working speaks to and reaches beyond the standard models of working with chemical dependency addiction. This workshop will apply to all clinicians who seek to have additional tools in helping people find a balance in life as well as pertaining to their own well being as a clinician. The workshop will discuss the importance of health, well being and preserving boundaries in the role of the clinician preventing burnt out and encouraging renewal and continued passion as helpers.

Presenter:

Steve Brugge, BRI II, NCAC II, CEAP, has worked in the field of chemical dependency for over 24 years, for the past 17 years he has worked on interventions using a gentle and mindful approach. He is a Board Certified Interventionist, (BRI II) Nationally Certified Addiction Counselor and Certified as an Employee Assistance Professional/CEAP. Steve has extensive training including a 2 year Shamanic course on the 4 Fold Way with Angeles Arrien. He is a consultant for The Other Bar, the Past President of the San Francisco EAPA Chapter, and is the Director of Business Development for the Recovery Division of CRC Health, Western Region. His foremost priority is to provide the high quality of care embracing values of integrity, compassion, self-reliance and clinical excellence. As a clinician he has demonstrated positive treatment outcomes by teaching patients about the disease of addiction, the ability to identify the disease, reducing the stigma associated with addiction, and accepting addiction as a progressive condition, which is treatable.
